Women Braving Peace

I see women making peace by supporting refugees, praying as they make quilts for refugees, reading with poor reading children. I think the main thing is to keep on peacemaking even when your little effort does not seem fruitful. Oftentimes, good fruit takes a while
to bear, especially when peace does not seem to be valued by those in power. "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will
obtain peace."

Dear Karen G.
You are so right. Sometimes it’s the small acts of kindness that make a difference in people’s lives.

Peace

I am using Café with a young women's small group and would like
to combine each meeting with Scripture. It would be a great
addition to the e-zine.

Dear Café Reader,
Thanks for sharing your good news of the implementation of
Café with your group. Let us share some good news back.

As a part of the strategic plan of Women of the ELCA,
Café will be expanding in frequency and in content. Tentatively scheduled to begin next August or September (when the grant portion of this pilot program is ended), Café will become a monthly e-zine with more sections, including content such as biblical reflection or prayer, a regularly updated new section, and more.

It is our hope that this will make
Café even more relevant in the lives of women seeking to strengthen the connection of their spirituality and daily life through community, advocacy, faith and enlightenment. Of course, we love it when folks take Café and shape it to fit their specific needs, such as you have done. To us that is the best possible scenario. Thanks!

I hope you'll continue to enjoy
Café. Please let us know any other interesting news about your group or their ideas.

Peace,
Nancy G.

I'd like it if you'd do an on-line survey on the election and what people thought. Maybe you can partner with an online survey organization. You guys do all this humanitarian stuff, and I'm wondering what this demographic thinks the solutions are to some
of the tough situations facing the nation today.
Thanks,
Karla M.

Hi Karla,
There has been so much buzz about this last particular election and the issues surrounding it. I know we have been receiving lots of letters from people who line up from all points along the political spectrum.

I'll take your idea down to our research and evaluation folks and see what they think. I will let you know if something comes of it.

On a related note, we are in the process of planning an on-line survey for subscribers of Café. (FYI — All subscriber information is kept confidential and is not used for purposes other than Café-related email.) As we approach the last leg of the pilot program that was launched through the initial Thrivent grant, we seek your feedback to assist us evaluate the e-zine. This will probably happen early- to mid-2005. While each person’s participation is completely voluntary, we would appreciate knowing what you think.
Peace,
Nancy G.

Great article!! I especially liked the 12 ways you can bring about peace. Peace begins at home and how we treat others goes a long way. I make it a point not to get very much of my news from the mainstream networks, they are too biased for me. I watch Link Tv and check out various Lutheran and other church websites. Mennonite Media is a great website for peace issues. “Church in Society” from the ELCA is great also! Makes you very much aware
of what is going on in the world and USA.
Keep up the great work!
Peace,

It was enlightening to read about Joya, the conditions in Afghanistan which are not yet what we hope they might become for women, especially. It was disheartening to learn that even though they register to vote, their husbands often keep them from doing so. I had read about many suicides there because they find it their only way out of that hurtful male domination that is so strong. Keep up the good work!
