Some transitions may come unexpectedly. Describe what you learned from an unexpected transition.

Thanks for the article about new parenthood. I am a fulltimei pastor and fulltime mother of a three month old girl. Life certainly has changed (with less sleep) but certainly more awareness of the (church) community we are apart of. Thanks!

I keep hoping, Phyllis, that someone is going to offer you some great insight here. I don't know that this is it, but I can share what I learned during two significant transitions in my life. Patience. In each case I ended one job without another one in sight. I picked up some temp work and patiently waited for the right job, asking for the Holy Spirit to help and guide me. In time, those jobs did come along and I was ready.

I am in transition now. I retired from being a church secretary three months ago. I'm making it because I still cling to my many volunteer positions. I'm only 70. Wish I could have worked ten years longer. I've always defined myself by my paid employment. Leaving paid employment really leaves a hole in my life. I in prayer now that Jesus will help me redefine my life. He has already told me that He wants me to be a more active and LOUD witness for Him. How are the rest of you baby boomers getting along?

I am also a list maker and this article was a great reminder of how that works with my faith. Good Luck in Mexico!

I am recently divorced and am a single mom. I've learned from this transition in my life that God will never give me more than I can handle . Even in times of despair God is good and He always takes care of me and my children. He never forgets about us. He is always there!

I've shared an excerpt from Kaitlin's "Tales of Transition" to Global Service on the Hand in Hand Blog Digest (blogs.elca.org/handinhand), along with these two questions: 1. When have you faced the need to "let go" to go? 2. After a major sort of stuff, what are you glad to have shed, grateful to have kept or sorry to have tossed?

After graduating from high school in 1998, I got married and quickly found out that we were expecting. I had to quickly transition into being a college student, wife and then mother. What I learned was that God was and is still there for me through all the hard times. 11 years later I am still trying to figure it out, but I have learned that it's ok! God is good all the time and He's got my back!
