Tell us about a time when you experienced loss and eventual growth. What did you learn from that experience?
This reading came along at a perfect time. I am currently travelling through a desert of sorts. There are family members that are also struggling with their desert journeys. This article helped me feel connected to others that understand. Thank-you.
Posted by: katy Posted: 11/29/2007 8:42:20 PM I'd like to speak to Sarah Stumme's comment about the quote, "God never gives you more than you can handle" not being a verse from scripture. First Corinthians 10:13 says,"No testing has overtaken you that is not common to everyone. God is faithful, and He will not let you be tested beyond your strength, but with the testing He will also provide the way out so that you may be able to endure it." Some people lose their faith when death or disaster change their whole life. But God promises to be with us through it all, helping us to endure any testing of our faith. This scripture assures me that together God and I can handle it.
Posted by: Sybil Reisch (Brockport, NY) Posted: 11/9/2007 5:44:27 PM Congregation: Concordia, Kendall This article was beautiful. I loss my mother in March to Alzheimers. While I was taking care of her I was reading a devotional book (I can't remember who wrote it) that talked about the Exodus. I related so much to the story. I felt my walk with her was through the "desert". Grief is even more so, most days I am in a very dark place, but I see glimpses of hope, "wildflowers" poking through. I remember something funny, or someone else shares a memory of her. She is still so much a part of me and will always be.
Thanks so much for sharing this.

Women and
water:
let's begin
At the 2005 Triennial
Convention, delegates took action that asked Women of the
ELCA to promote awareness on water issues and encouraged
synodical women’s organizations to make awareness of local
and regional water issues a priority.
To learn more about this important action and how you
can get involved, visit
Women of the ELCA's
