Has reading this article given you any ideas on other ways you could invite others into community with you? If yes, what are they?

We have all experienced being invited to different functions that not always seemed appealing but after attending, we found that we benefited from the experience in more ways than one. Trinity Lutheran Church Women

This article and the concept of "what an inviatation is" struck an important chord with me... I am 25, have recently moved, and am currently "in between" congregations. Specifically I am in between the church I was baptized and born into, and where I have been a very active member throughout my childhood, teens, and early adulthood and... well, there's the question. Choosing a new church is serious business, and sometimes as frustrating as it is inspiring. I have been to several over the last few months, and have recently decided to take a much closer look at one I like very much. So now what? I attend on Sundays, and I speak with the pastor and a friend who is also a member. I have been invited to a Sedar dinner, to join the choir, and to chaperone a youth outing to the theatre (all with thanks to my friend). ...but it still doesn't feel like home. It doesn't feel like my home church I still love to visit. Why is that? The article talked about what to do when invitations are scarce: be your own (well-behaved!) party crasher. Offer your gifts, offer your time and yourself. And when you are invited? Don't forget the RSVP line. Don't forget to accept, and to say "Yes, thank you, I will come." Maybe what I have gotten out of it all is this: Answer an invitation with another invitation. Invite them to be a part of your life. I think I'll try that... next time I am invited to an event or a breakfast or bible study, I will say --outloud or in my own head-- "Yes, thank you, I will come. Yes, I invite you and your community into the hours of my life." That sounds pretty good. I think I'll give it a try. Thanks for the invitation to think about it!

Women and water:
let's begin

At the 2005 Triennial Convention, delegates took action that asked Women of the ELCA to promote awareness on water issues and encouraged synodical women’s organizations to make awareness of local and regional water issues a priority.

To learn more about this important action and how you can get involved, visit Women of the ELCA's Web site.
