Tell us about a bold woman who has made an impact on your life.
Excellent Article. It is very refreshing to hear stories of women putting so much effort into making a difference in the world
Posted by: Dustin Posted: 3/3/2007 12:38:33 PM "Bold Women's Day" celebrates the women in our lives who act boldly on their faith in Jesus Christ. Although IWD appears to have a more secular origin, Christian women can support women around the globe on that holiday and everyday.
Posted by: Anne V. Posted: 3/3/2007 11:45:35 AM I appreciate the ELCA's action in giving women a voice in "Bold Women's Day" but why are we reinventing the action? Why not celebrate with our sisters around the world on International Women's Day on March 8?
I think this solidarity is extremely important, especially in our world today.
Posted by: Melissa Stoller (Cook, MN) Posted: 2/28/2007 3:27:30 PM Congregation: Trinity Lutheran At last year's synod assembly I talked to the leader of a workshop on advocacy. In talking to her I realized that I had become an advocate. A few years ago, I became a union steward. As such, I advocate for clerical employees who have difficulty from supervisor or working conditions at Indiana University Bloomington. One Saturday I walked and yelled with others before the start of a basketball game. I have gathered names on petitions. We are working to prevent more outsourcing at the university. When the jobs are outsourced, seniority is lost. Wages start at the bottom. Health insurance is lost. Retirement benefits are lost. The right to fee courtesy (to take classes at no or low cost) is lost. We continue to work for employees. When I started, I didn't think of it as advocacy. But I have discovered that I walk taller and feel better about myself when I am helping others.
