Do you have any spiritual New Year's resolutions? If so, what are they?

Yesterday was Groundhog Day. (Belated greetings!) And the hog day does have connections to Candlemas and the Presentation of our Lord in the church world. As I was reading around on these topics, I came across one reference that said in days of yore, some would use this holiday as a time to make resolutions for the coming season or months, much like resolutions are made at New Year's in today's culture. The author went on to say that perhaps Feb. 2 (whatever you might observe on that day) is a time to review how well you have fared with the New Year's resolutions that are a bit more than a month old. I like that idea. It's like a performance review!

I see this time as a good time to renew a personal commitment. My goal is to live my life in a way that lets my light so shine before others, that they see my works and glorify my Father in heaven with a main focus on doing this at home in front of my family where I am a primary examlple to my children.

I have discovered that what I won't do for my own benefit, I WILL do as an act of love for God. So I resolve to live each day performing tasks, no matter how small, in gratitude to God for his sacrifice and love for me. Healthy meals, exercise, sound finances, and even housecleaning, can all be done to the glory of God. These are no less important than Bible study, prayer or church work. To maximize your life's quality - to utilize your God-given capabilities - is to maximize your honor, praise and worship of God.

I like to renew resolutions (and God smiles!) I will: find quiet time to listen for God, read a devotion and related Scripture, study the Psalms and keep humming hymns while I drive.

I think all of my resolutions this year will improve my overall spiritual health. I am going to work on keeping my body healthy by eating well. I'm going to keep stress from stealing my joy by not over doing it with credit card spending. If I'm not distracted, or feeling worn down, I can give thanks more and that will make me a better servant.

I really haven't made any resolutions. I don't think they really do any good. We all try hard for the first month or so and then slack off. What I would like to do is continue exercising, watching what I eat and be more faithful reading my devotions. I think that we need to try to be the best we can be.
