What discipline are you thinking about taking on this Lenten season? How will you go about it?

As an intern pastor of the ELCA, I am increasingly experiencing concern about the what we consider the center of our faith lives. Increasingly, it is becoming the vague and relativistic "spirituality" rather than the Scriptures. If we try to look inside for wisdom and guidance, then we forget that we are flawed, broken human beings. Thank God we have an external Word, a voice outside of the mixed messages and confusing thoughts in our own heads. Now, meditation can be very helpful, but if it is just full of our own thoughts and not the Scriptures, then we leave ourselves open to all sorts of voices...and some of them may not be God's.

I am trying to get a women's group started in my congregation and will use my lenten devotions to seek inspiration about how to go about it.

I've added two more meditations (scripture verse, paragraph of thought, small prayer) to the 4 I already use for Lent. I added one to my morning meditations time and one to my evening meditation time. The morning time helps me prepare for the day. The evening one helps me relax for sleep.
